Simon has been working as an artist in Kent for the last eight years or so, and has studied for a BA Hons in Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design at Canterbury (now UCA), a place at which he now has a position as a workshop technician in the FE department. Most of his spare time is taken up with my continued sculptural based work, with the odd foray into print-making, painting and even video pieces.
The media that he uses is inspired by the subject matter, using the most appropriate tools as it were for the job. He has recently been using everything from false teeth and concrete, to cooking oil mixed with shredded newspaper. He has his own studio space within Thanet, and has been using my his time there to take a step back from exhibiting, so that he could realise his ideas and practice more fully, whilst building up a new body of work including painting as well as moving into the area of bronze casting.
Simon’s use of acrylic, ply and bronze for his: Sheep, Chickens and Jelly Babies.. are proving incredibly popular at Margate Gallery and we look forward to many other new creations.
