Anne's 'layered embroideries' are made of many types of fabric, sewn together by hand and machine. These are then cut through and sewn over with hand and machine stitching. She uses recycled fabrics, lace, string, tapestry and vintage images to create 'small worlds'. Travel, memory and her local environment combines to influence her choice of subject matter.
She trained as a fine artist and her approach to work uses many of the same conventions. By interpreting this in fabric, the work becomes approachable and familiar, although often with an unexpected twist. Many pieces are box framed in light oak and work well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
During 2009, she is collaborating with two artists and a writer to produce work using a range of themes, based on the natural world. She is continuing to exhibit new work and samples of these collaborations.
Anne is happy to accept and design commissioned work through the Ingoldsby Gallery.
